Reducing Stress Through Heart Math

Sorry about falling off the map for the last couple of weeks. Yikes!

I have been working on a screenplay for a feature film and so dug into that and let this idle. I have put the intention out there to attract a producer, director, cast and financial support who can embrace the larger picture while producing a film. Its story? Stay tuned. Or contact me if you are interested.

www.HeartMath.org is hosting a webinar on how to reduce stress by adjusting your physical response. Click here to register. The program starts on April 2nd. HeartMath has been profiled in this blog before since it is a great source of research on the heart, heart centered leadership and how to consciously, through your own self-awareness bring your state of being into greater coherence. No doubt many of the techniques used in this program will help you achieve that.

As more and more people make the link between personal and professional growth and reduced stress, health and wellness, the connection eventually gets made that this work achieves more when self-directed. Placing trust in your intuitive instincts to guide you makes for more accurate decisions.  'The Secret'  created a commercial cult of personal growth wizards making it hard to know who or what to trust. The wealth of personal growth technologies available amount to a smorgasbord demanding discernment, an informed buyer and use of intuition.

What is the value of self-directed growth and expansion to business? As anyone who reads this Blog knows, the capacity to take charge is absolutely critical right now especially for the executive level where the pressure is on to release command/control. The more resistance there is, the harder it will be and the more stress created. Much easier to get a grip on the biofeedback tools which make it easy.

Balancing Energy and Your Health

It does not much matter who you are or where you work, staying in balance is the key to leading from the heart and functioning from a creative rather than survival mode. It is hard to do without being aware of your body. Body awareness takes time to develop for sure. At the same time, you know when your body is not in balance which is probably the best barometer.

A couple of health related resources for those of you who prefer to take charge of staying well rather than leaving it till you are in disease management mode. Some of these resources are passed on by Bryan deFlores who knows how to select what is most effective at this point in our collective evolution.

1) Cleansing....there are tons of products out there. Remembering that your body responds to messages it receives means remembering what you say. If you repeatedly tell your body it is fat, then naturally it will help you eat more since that is your focus. For cleansing, keep it simple and not too harsh. Good sites: www.earthclinic.com; www.bodypure.com At the earthclinic.com site you will find Apple Cider Vinegar which is a simple, inexpensive, very effective solution. Once you figure out how to make it tasty you are on the road to keeping your digestive system in order. Talking about cleansing your body too much sends the wrong message. It is more like regular maintenance.

2) Colour energy solutions: Each colour has a frequency and each frequency balances a different part of your energy field somewhat like the mantras do in yoga which uses sound. More information is on the www.FromInsightToAction.com website under Energy Balancing.

3) Vibrational wave technology: Cory Herter's energy mats were designed through a powerful inspiration - to heal both himself of a head injury and his brother of body paralysis. They work whether you can feel them working or not. For more information go to www.newwavetechnology.ca

At the upcoming www.bodyheals.ca conference Norman Sheely will be speaking. This is a great place for Health and Wellness specialists and masters to find community, new ideas, confirm old ones and just be in the company of those who get there is more to you than meets the  microscope.

Emotional Stress: The Impact on Health

Everyone knows that when you are focused on doing your job you do a better job. Or do they? Emotional stress has an impact that is far more subtle than mental distraction. An article in the New York Times presents a good example of how it impacts athletic performance, which quite frankly, mirrors the process of professional performance. When athletes are in 'the zone' they are in that place of calm relaxation where all the brains functions are in harmony. The performance zone is the same for professionals. Heart Math and Energizing the Workforce

Just in case you are not aware of the incredible work being done by the Heart Math Institute I encourage you to go to www.heartmath.org where you will find abundant research on heart intelligence and its connection to health and well being. The state of balance and inner peace is achievable not just using the techniques providing by the HeartMath Institute but also through other sources as well. No matter what tools you use to keep your energy balanced and your focus on the positive, they all require self-discipline applied in the moment.

For energizing yourself, Cory Herter has designed energy mats based on the principles of sacred geometry and on bioenergetics. Cory' s story is pretty amazing. Whether you believe that the mats will work will impact whether they do or don't. To use them effectively, it helps to watch his video. www.newwavetechnology.ca

Finally, for the health and wellness people reading this blog, take a look at the biopulsar reflexograph, a certified medical device in 23 countries in Europe which provides a graphic readout of organ and energy vitality. Having taken the training in June I have only tickled at the surface of the value of this device. www.colourenergy.com

Walking-Talking Meetings

Whether you are a single parent running your own business or just running your own business, time is short and multi-tasking is necessary. Walk the dog, get exercise, and meet using the same amount of time to achieve three things. It just doesn’t get better. If you don’t have a dog, then two out of three is still good.

Things to make walking and talking work better:

  1. When I walk the dog it tends to be on serious trails. Not everyone is ready for that. Someone not used to rugged terrain spends more energy trying to navigate it than concentrating on what they are saying. This applies to fitness level. It helps to know whether sweating is a welcome thing on a walking meeting. If not, pick a flatter trail.
  2. The funny thing about focus is that you miss most of what is going on around you. If you are both intensely focused on what the ideas you are trading then make sure one of you knows the trail inside out or you are both paying attention to where you are going. Otherwise your focus will shift to finding the trail that leads back to the car or where you will set up camp for the night. If you are using urban trails, the same holds true but for different reasons. Keeping one eye on the horizon and one eye on the steering wheel is another way of saying notice what is going on around you while staying present in the conversation.
  3. Remain watchful, present and focused. All important leadership skills that walk-talk meeting demand you to practice.
  4. Many walk-talk meetings are great opportunities for catching up, trading stories and then determining how to support each person’s work. It is up to both parties to ensure that both bases have been covered unless you agree to do otherwise. Remaining mindful of fair air time is important.
  5. When we finish an indoor meeting we typically check on points of agreement and then cover next steps. Similarly, when you finish your walk, make sure you cover what happens next as a next step.

Many people assume the only serious conversations must take place within the confines of four walls. In reality, the most creative moments take place outside of it especially in the abundant domain of nature. Remember Einstein observed the concept of relativity on a subway. Other thought leaders have taken their guidance from dreams.

Becoming more present with the world at large and with me takes place when I walk alone. If I am able to carry out a walk and not think (most of the time), then I have opened myself to receiving greater guidance far more accurate than what I could cook up with my mind. This is when the walks becoming walking meditations or a walking meeting with yourself. Leave your mind in the parking lot.
