The economic 'downturn' has grabbed the attention of many with YouTube video blogs abundant with explanations of what it all means and where it is all going. Regardless of which explanation you subscribe to (I have my own to toss in) one thing is certain. We are standing at the portal between fear and possibility.
Nowhere was that clearer than with the election of Barack Obama as President. The resuscitation of hope is palpable. Hope not just for the U.S. but also for the rest of the world touched by their foreign policy amongst other things. Meanwhile in business, it is the perfect opening for the power of the human spirit to prevail. When people are afraid they either contract, withdraw or lash out irrationally through anger, rage or passive-aggressive behaviour. Expressed at an organizational level, it shows up as siloed turf fights, arguments over who has used the fax machine, or photocopier... small stuff with big consequences. It all indicates a poverty of spirit. Incapacity to use conflict effectively as a creative tool for higher learning is another indicator. With the economic downturn impacting pension plans, retirement dreams and business aspirations, the opening exists to reflect on your role in the world, your place in it and what your instrinic creative talent is.
Passion lies at the heart of the matter. Since energy is spirit and your energy is a reflection of how you see and Be in the world; we have the collective chance to create the world we want. The whole relationship with money is on the table. The meaning of money and the role of it in your life all gets put into question. Personal security is at stake. There couldn't be a better portal for expansion not just for personal lives; for those who have gone to work leaving their passion behind but also for business who have assumed that the reason for their existence is just to make money.
There is nothing like fear of loss to motivate possibility.
